well it was good

Rice

I got quite tired of white one so now decided to switch to the brown one. Well, I can turn back to white wherever I want, I actually still have about a kilo of it left. But got some brown too. Not only because brown is more healthy than white. I just need a break from white, but rice has always been a part of my food. So I'll keep it and see how it goes.

Also, recently I've been thinking about making a rice porridge. I know it requires milk. Googled and found some recipies.

Put 1 cup of rice into boiling water, boil 5 - 8 minutes, place rice on sieve. After the water from it flows down place rice into pan with hot salted milk (4 cups of milk, 1/2 tea spoon of salt) and boil of weak fire for 15 minutes, regularly stirring. Add 1 table spoon of sugar, stir it, cover, and place the pan into bigger pan with hot water for 10 - 15 minutes. Serve with butter.

Place 1.5 cup of rice into 2 cups of boiling water, cover, boil on large fire for 10 minutes, reduce fire to medium and boil for 5 - 6 minutes more. Take off fire, wrap in something warm (usually couple of towels), wait 15 - 20 minutes. Place rice into different pan, add 2 cups of hot milk and let the rice absorb the milk without heating. Add 3 table spoons of sugar, 1/2 tea spoon of cinnamon , 3 or 4 table spoons of butter, heat for 3 - 4 more minutes in a bigger pan with hot water or in the oven.

Scary news;-) Muahaha?

Looks like I'm becoming a Lovecraft fan.
I started reading it to understand the spirit of Nightmare Circle, though looks like not all NMC fans even read the actual texts or did it much...

Well, I just like it. Wiki'ed it as well, and found that the "Beyond Re-Animator" movie is based on it! So that's why I so much liked it! I got it occasionally long ago because the price was affordable and I thought the main character looks attractive (gosh, I love smart men!), and then I found I like it a lot. You know, all those walking corpses, mad eyes, blood all around, the whole dismemberment thing, especially that bitten off piece of male anatomy;-) That was just hilarious;-) And it crawled around by itself! *giggle*

These thoughts make me hungry, but the upcoming lunch is not much inspiring as it's just three eggs and nothing else *sigh* But for dinner I'll have fried liver with spaghetti and ketchup, and tea with jam, or maybe with Russian fudge. I'll be cooking liver tonight, yay! Meat and blood! Yum!

Money situation is upsetting and will remain like that till 11th December *sigh*, well, my own fault, nobody's else. Can't buy anything till Tuesday, but even then will have very few cash, as there are too many things to pay for. Including the last in this year bellydance lesson, the new bellydane music CD, and the head scarf that I want, it's very jingly. Hopefully I'll be able to get some more nice liver, otherwise will have to go with more expensive meat.

Funny thing about reading Lovecraft is that I got an inspiration for a wonderful larp character... But it will be too complicated to make as I'll need to be attached to another player, strongly preferably male, with a particular character... This could make a perfect Ravenholme option, alas...

Am I allergic?

NAAMA people, anybody remembers how that little greenery called that we had for lunch? Not cabbage, but little green thingies, they are used kinda for taste?
Amd also, do you remember what kinds of cheese were there?

I'm asking because several months ago I had some cheese on a company party, and there also were chips with similar kind of greenery, and I had a kind of a rash on outside part of my hands, little red dots that later turned into rough irritated skin that was kinda harder and more uneven than normal. And right now I have exactly the same, the red dots appeared at NAAMA, so now it's rough.

It appears about two hours after the food, stays red for a couple of days, then gets rough for several days, then goes away. It's not a big deal, and in fact, I only notice it because I'm overparanoid about health, if you looked at me not knowing it's there you probably wouldn't even notice. It doesn't hurt, it doesn't itch, it's just there. The cheese and the greenery are the two things that I had in both cases, and they are also two things I normally don't eat. I'm just not into greenery, and my cheese is always hard, not softy things used for events. Everything else was only in one case (e.g. marchmallows on the party but not at NAAMA, apple pie at NAAMA but not at the party), and I also eat all those things from time to time and never have any reaction.

I've always used to think I'm not allergic to anything but knew I wouldn't be surprised to find that I actually am. If it's something I normally don't eat - good for me. So, do you think the described stuff looks like an allergy? If yes, are the greenery and particular types of cheese actually able to provoke allergic reaction? And if I go to appropriate doctor, can he just make a biochemical blood analysis or something similar to find out what I can be allergic to, or do I need to try things? I wanna know at least what it could be, and whether it's one of those, or both, or their combination... It's not an urgent matter, but just better know what's going on with your body *sigh*

Food... Food? Food!!!

Out of curiosity: what percentage of your day food goes to breakfast, to lunch, and to dinner? I don't mean how it "should be" according to clever books and doctors, I mean - how it really is, and do you feel ok with it?
I think I seriously undereat in the mornings... That needs to be fixed.

Olives and chocolate

Apparently, there are types of food that I terribly need at least from time to time. So today I've bought a can of olives;-) I sometimes buy them, quickly eat in several days, and then no olives till next craving. But normally I get the green ones, and today I got black. I almost forgot their taste. They are very nice.

And chocolate, yeah... Well, I could restrain myself from getting the big chocolate bar, but instead took the hazelnut spread. One of the advantages of this spread is that you can't eat much of it, it's too sweet. But if I want to - I can eat as much as I need. It's so nice to be adult;-)

But now I'll be eating pancakes. With strawberry jam.

Why is cherry so expensive in New Zealand? Difficult to grow?

How much potato is in one potato?

Apparently enough for a lunch. Especially if you add a bit of ox heart, a nice sweet apple, and a sandwich with strawberry jam.

I've only tried this jam yesterday first time, but I must admit - strawberry jam is a nice thing.

What do you eat at work?

P.S. Wanna try ox liver too later, when run out of heart, but I have so much of it! Yay food!

Potatos, ole!

... but two potatos - too much for one lunch, even though they are medium-size. Probably need the little ones.
And need to cut them smaller too, otherwise takes for ages to boil them through. I think they were kinda raw in the middle... I cut them into long halves, then slice each half into thick (1 cm) slices, but it looks like not enough. 40 minutes boiling them, and not enough. Geek!

Tonight will cut much thinner.

P.S. Ox heart - good.

What we ate in USSR

This post is inspired by yesterday [info]stephanie_pegg' s comment that made me think - why I don't know so much about food?

Spaghetti and any other kind of food like that, I mean - same type but different shapes.
What exactly do you eat them with?
EDIT: With what other foods?

Yay breakfast!

I have recently read somewhere in Internet that there was a study where they fed people with same food but different breakfast - control group had bacon, experimental group had 2 eggs, number of calories was the same. And experimental group lost more weight because eggs kept them unhungry for longer time, so they ate less at lunch.

I decided I can use it as I normally get hungry already at half past ten, and my lunch is at 1pm only. So I added one egg to my breakfast today. I only had 1 egg left, so will have to not forget buy a dozen of them today.
So far feels quite nice. But today it's not very valid experiment as our sysadmin has birthday today, so there was cake, and some thingy baked of eggs with lots of bacon. But I'm gonna try to keep it like that for a week and see if the egg for breakfast will keep me not hungry.

If you have experience of regular eating egg for breakfast - what do you think of it?

Capsicum

My Dad thinks I should eat capsicum. Not that I'm against it, just not really caring... But I saw nice capsicums yesterday in Foodtown, so I bought... one.
If anyone has anything interesting to say about capsicum - I'm listening carefully;-)

Milk

I think that milk without those conservants that keep it for longer is, in fact, much-much better. Tried it yesterday - and even liked it. It seems very drinkable. I'll be buying this one now instead of preserved one, I don't like that one.
Even pancakes on the normal one seem better.
Or maybe it has something to do with nice plum jam I bought for them;-)))

Pancakes

I think my food pattern is a kind of step-by-step assimilation of different foods.

Ok, I'll come back to it when I stop boiling. This post has actually been started before the previous one, but I had to interupt it to splash out my anger... I can't really think of pancakes now.

cooking plans

Cabbage needs to be eaten with gherkins. I feel that will be the best option. Cabbage definitely lacks gherkins, and I'm going to restore this balance. So today I'll go and buy a can of gherkins. I really didn't buy them for a long time already...
And I want omelet! I don't even remember when I've been eating it last time. I think my body lacks eggs.
I have eggs, I have milk, and oil, and even a frying pan with cover.
And I have pancakes too. Made them yesterday, but with that baking powder they took so bloody long to bake that I started eating some food from the fridge as I was very hungry. After finishing small bits of chicken, bread, olives, and chocolate I happily finished baking the pancakes just to discover I'm not hungry anymore.
Geek.
So I have dinner for today;-)))
But I'll make omelet too, I think it would be nice with a bit of pancakes, and the rest of them can stay more in the fridge.
